Artist Statement
In my artwork, I explore my questions and perceptions of life.
They are personal responses to situations and memories. Sometimes this is expressed through the use of everyday items which transcend their normal roles and make reference to a suggested narrative. These are juxtaposed with other elements.
Their combination creates a symbolic story line in the work that possesses a variety of interpretations. At times, I begin with a specific title or idea and consciously develop the piece to suggest a particular set of associations. In other work, I prefer to be directed by an intrinsic response to color, balance and found images or objects.
I allow for accident and chance to play a leading role in the development of the piece.
The art becomes a revelation of the subconscious mind, soul or life force within me.
