Ashley Kim
Artist Statement
I am a San Diego based potter who currently teaches as a Lecturer at San Diego State University, California. I earned my BFA from Utah State University and my MFA from Indiana University, Bloomington.
Last several years, I have been enjoying handbuilding using plaster drape molds made from vintage ceramic forms and various commercial plastic packagings and take-out containers. Color is a dominant element in my work and I use a wide palette of colors that interact with layers of textures and patterns in my functional work.
My work has been featured in:
March/April 2019 issue of Pottery Making Illustrated
Creative Adventures in Clay from Uppercase Publishing
Galleries:
L’Atelier Gallery
Mingei Museum Collectors Gallery in San Diego
Freehand Gallery in Los Angeles
Red Lodge Clay Center in Montana, among others
