Metamorphosis is a juried exhibition of current work by members of the Allied Craftsmen, an arts collective that originated in San Diego in 1946. Over the decades, this organization’s commitment to craft laid the foundation for San Diego to become an important regional incubator for artists, architects and designers. This salute to modern craft offers visitors the opportunity to discover current work made by local artists from a variety of backgrounds in the categories of fiber, glass, metal, wood, ceramics, furniture, jewelry and mixed media. The theme—metamorphosis—is inspired by Mingei International Museum's transformative renovation project, currently underway in Balboa Park. The artistic response to themes of reinvention and transformation reveal fresh perspectives on contemporary craft.
