Processes in Clay
Clay waits for you. It is humble and expendable, but there is no end to the things you can do with it.
In its moist state, it is soft and acquiescent, waiting to be formed by pinch or coil or potter’s wheel, relaxing into a mold, responding to and recording the subtlest touch of the hand. A little drier, it can be paddled, carved, cut, assembled, added to, bent, textured, shaved down, hollowed out.
Completely dry and ready to be fired, it can still return to dust and dissolution; transformed in the incandescent heat of the kiln, it becomes immutable and enduring, a man-made rock.
