Artist Statement
A lifetime practice of meditation and tai chi underlie my ceramic art.
My formative years were spent on the island of Kauai. Imbedded in my mind are the green valleys and rivers that turn into waterfalls and swimming pools surrounded with boulders, slippery slides, swimming holes and creeks that eventually flow into rivers that meet the white sandy beaches and the ocean.
These influences appear in my forms as I work with textures mimicking the weathering of water and wind on stone along with the process of decay like objects in the ocean.
Forms, glazes and textures evolve as I search for and discover hidden depths and suggestions of patterns.
